Manibhai Shivabhai Patel Cancer Centre was established in 2004 with a generous contribution from Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Manibhai Shivabhai brothers. It houses state-of-the-art cancer equipment in radiation, medical and surgical oncology and is dedicated to the delivery of compassionate and expert care to cancer patients. It also adheres to the motto of advancing its mandate of providing high-quality training in understanding, diagnosing, treating, palliating, preventing, and researching in the field of cancer. It boasts full-time Medical oncologists, Radiation oncologists, Medical Physicists, and Radiation Technologists.
The Centre added another feather to its cap by equipping itself with a second Linear Accelerator of a much higher capacity (the first of its kind in Asia) – a device used for external beam radiation treatments of cancer patients. The new machine with symmetry and intuitive features and exceptionally high-quality radiation is all set to revolutionize the radiation therapy given to patients. It will generate a 4D (length, breadth, thickness, and density) mapping of the tumor region, followed by an estimation of its per second activity and position, and conclude by targeting and delivering radiation dose with sub-millimeter accuracy.
